If you’re planning a trip to the beautiful North Conway area in New Hampshire, one of the greatest mountain towns in the country, you’ve probably got quite a few places picked out that you’d like to check out. After booking your stay at a cozy bed and breakfast, you might consider choosing a few hiking trails and picturesque waterfalls to appreciate. Here are a few nearby ideas (all within about 45 minutes of downtown North Conway) that offer affordable, scenic fun for all ages!

Glen Ellis Falls

Glen Ellis Falls is one of the standout attractions in all of the White Mountains! This impressive 64-foot waterfall is fed by the cold waters of Mt. Washington, and it’s quite a sight to behold as it sends water roaring into its rocky basin. It’s about 40 or so minutes from downtown North Conway, but once you’re there, the hike to the fall is a quick quarter mile!

Thompson Falls

Located near the Wildcat Mountain Ski Area and conveniently close to North Conway, Thompson Falls is a charming set of several clam-shell-shaped waterfalls that represent some of the lowest found in the area, ranging from around 20 to 30 feet. If you don’t mind frigid waters, the lower falls offer an inviting swimming pool!

Arethusa Falls

If you’re looking for a more moderate-level hike that rewards you with a stunning waterfall, Arethusa Falls is regarded by those who make the 3 mile-round-trip hike as one of the most beautiful in the entire state. It’s also one of the most massive, with the height of the plunge being estimated as nearly 200 feet!

Jackson Falls

You’ll have to head north near Jackson to access here, but the short trek is well worth it—you could spend an entire summer day swimming in this famous spot. You’ll want to stick to the upper half of the falls though, since the lower ones are a bit more thunderous. In any case, it’s a gorgeous site to behold during the late summer and early autumn when the foliage begins to brighten.

Diana’s Baths

This family-favorite waterfall is one of the most popular in all of New England and attracts visitors of all ages year-round, but May to October is the ideal time to visit. Fed from the Lucy Brook, there are several small falls and pools to be found here that your children will love playing in, and the hike itself is an easy 1.2 miles-round-trip on a well-maintained trail!

These waterfalls are just a few of the hundreds that are scattered across the region, all of which are worth visiting and appreciating! That said, if you’re looking for healthy outdoor fun that rewards you with the view of a lifetime, don’t hesitate to check out one of these impressive cascades near North Conway.
